化学家（Chemists）专指从事化学研究的科学家。有时专门从事各类材料（如金属、合金、聚合物、橡胶、半导体等）研究的材料学家（Materials Scientists）也归属于化学家之下。
职业介绍
化学家和材料学家主要研究物质的化学结构、成份、反应及其它性质，并使用化学知识开发新产品、新方法及新材料或提升其性能与效率等。化学与材料科学的研究现在越来越趋向跨学科化，通常与生物、物理、天文、地质、医学以及纳米科学（纳米科学本身便是一个交叉学科）有非常多的交汇之处。因此一个化学家或材料学家，也可能同时是一个物理学家、生物学家或纳米科学家等。
化学家一般可以分为：
- 分析化学家（Analytical chemists）
- 无机化学家（Inorganic chemists）
- 医学化学家（Medicinal chemists）
- 有机化学家（Organic chemists）
- 物理化学家（Physical chemists）
其它如生物化学家（biochemists）、生物物理学家（biophysicists）及地质学家（geoscientists）等，也通常需要使用大量的化学方法。

化学家与材料学家一般必需获得博士（PhD）学位，化学或材料科学等专业毕业。
