The Application Process

Fall Admissions

Fall quarter admissions and fellowship consideration for domestic and international students(contact department for winter and spring admissions):

Applications are now open for fall quarter. The early deadline to submit your application is December 1st, and completed applications are due byJanuary 5thin order to receive priority consideration for admissions and fellowship. Eligible applicants will be considered for fellowship awards, which are a combination of stipends and employment as a Teaching Assistant or Graduate Student Researcher. Fellowships are limited and highly competitive; therefore, students are encouraged to apply early.

Testing & Qualifications

The general GRE exam is optional to apply for the Ph.D. program.

A GPA of at least 3.25 (Junior/Senior year) and a minimum GRE score of 300 (verbal + quantitative scores combined) qualify for admissions. Applicants with higher GPA and GRE test scores will be considered for our highest fellowship awards. Letters of recommendation and demonstrated ability to conduct independent research are all strongly taken into consideration.

International students whose native language is not English will need to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Minimum TOEFL scores: 550 written/213 computer.

Application

The following items are needed to complete the graduate application:

  • Submit theUCR Electronic Graduate Application
  • Statement of Purpose and Personal History Statement
  • For international applicants - complete the Confidential Financial Statement.
  • For domestic applicants - complete the Supplemental Fellowship Statement.
  • Graduate Applicant Disclaimer Statement.
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation (at least two from faculty).
  • Official transcripts from each institution (must be in sealed envelopes and mailed to the address listed below).
  • Official General GRE scores.Scores cannot be older than 5 years.
  • For international applicants - Official TOEFL score (not older than 2 years).
  • Resume and/or CV.


Incomplete graduate applications will delay the admissions process.
