How to Apply

Graduate Admission information is available from theOffice of Graduate and Professional Admissions at Rutgers University. A complete application for the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program consists of the electronic application, three letters of recommendation, the application fee, official transcripts from previous academic institutions, a personal statement which addresses the reasons for interest in graduate study, and TOEFL scores (if an international applicant). GRE General Test scores are not required for MS/ME or PhD applicants but can demonstrate mathematics proficiency if submitted. TOEFL and GRE scores have suggested minimums set by Rutgers that are useful in ascertaining the student's English and Quantitative abilities.

Please note that when applying, applicants must check the "Biomedical Engineering" option for the program of study since there are also "Biomedical Sciences" programs which are not affiliated with this program.

ALL PhD applications must be received by December 15 for consideration for the Fall cycle. BME at Rutgers admits students primarily for the fall terms. Supporting material must be received shortly thereafter so that the Admissions Committee can begin reviewing application in January. The Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program guarantees 5 years of support for PhD students who remain in good standing and in full-time status in the Program. Early submission is strongly encouraged for all applicants.

ALL MS and ME applications and supporting material must be received by March 1 for consideration for the Fall cycle. BME at Rutgers admits students primarily for the fall terms. There are no departmental funding mechanisms for incoming masters students. Funding must be handled by the applicant.
