Doctoral Program in Physics

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at UC Irvine offers a program of graduate study leading to a Ph.D. degree in Physics. Our graduate course curriculum provides a foundation in fundamental physics and elective courses in a broad range of topical areas. Graduate students carry out original research indiverse areas of experimental and theoretical physics and astrophysics, under the guidance of members of ourdepartmental faculty. We also offer a graduate program inChemical and Materials Physicsas a joint program with theUCI Department of Chemistry. Graduates of our Ph.D. program are well prepared for careers in scientific research, teaching, and industry.
