Training the Next Generation of Biomedical Scientists

The Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences is an interdisciplinary translational research program that incorporates a medical school curriculum with basic science training. Our students become independent research scientists with skills that allow them to bridge the wide gulfs that exist between clinical medicine and basic science research.

The training leads to a Ph.D., combined M.D./Ph.D., or M.S. degree. Students have the opportunity to work with more than 60 faculty members from across the campus conducting interdisciplinary research at the forefront of more than a dozen different fields, including neuroscience, bioengineering, immunology and molecular endocrinology.

Our Faculty and Their Research

Our programs bring together more than 60 faculty members from across the campus, working together to add to our understanding of human disease and therapeutics. Our research areas include:

  • Neuroscience, Neurodevelopment and Neurodegeneration
  • Bioengineering
  • Cancer Biology
    • Stem Cells
  • Molecular Endocrinology
  • Microbiology and Infectious Disease
  • Vaccine Development
  • Mental Health and Behavioral Neuroscience
  • Regenerative Medicine
    • Stem Cells
  • Drug Design and Receptor Biology
  • Immunology, Chronic Inflammatory and Autoimmune Diseases
  • Gene Regulation and Epigenetics
  • Physiology and Fluid Transport
  • Neurotoxicity and endocrine-disruption
  • Environmental Toxicology
