Step 1: Begin your application form

Admission to UTS courses is competitive. The application isnotan enrolment form, nor does it guarantee admission to UTS. An incomplete application will result in delays in processing.

There are two ways to apply to UTS:

Option 1: Submit an online application

Use the blue button below to access our online application system. If you are a new user, you will have to create an account. On the ‘start your application’ tab, enter your chosen course name or course code.

Option 2: Complete a hard copy application form

Hardcopy application forms must be completed using a black pen, with clear printing. You must sign your own application form. Application forms signed by a UTS representative or by proxy will not be processed.

Step 2: Arrange your supporting documentation

All applications require supporting documents to be submitted to UTS.

All documents submitted with this application become the property of UTS.

The actual support documentation required depends on the applicant, and the type of study you are applying to do.

Supporting documentation may include:

  • academic transcript – include certified copies of your academic records
  • English language proficiency– include a certified copy of your English test score if available
  • a completed form, if you are applying forrecognition of prior learning(RPL)
  • details of exclusion (or possible exclusions) from a course on academic or other grounds
  • details of relevant work experience, including certified copies of references from your employer on company letterhead, if required
  • supporting statement or portfolio:
    • if required, your personal statement should state why you wish to study the course you have nominated and outline your major personal, academic and educational achievements. You must also explain how you are capable of succeeding in the course.
    • if required, your portfolio needs to contain between five and ten pieces of original work showing your design ability. Some courses may have additional portfolio requirements. Refer to theUTS Handbookfor details. Your portfolio may be submitted as colour photocopies, photos, CD-ROM, DVD, web sites or showreels. Please do not submit copies of your original work, as they may not be returned.
  • details of disability or ongoing medical condition that will require you to seek special assistance from the university. You must attach a medical statement from a registered doctor.

UTS cannot consider your application if all required supporting documentation is not attached.

If you have submitted an online application, you can attach copies of your suppborting documentation to your online application.You will still need to submit the original copies to UTS.

Certified copies of supporting documentation

UTS will accept copies certified by employees of one of the following:

  • Australian Overseas Diplomatic Mission
  • UTSAuthorised Representative or Agent
  • Public Notary Office
  • the Administration of the Institution that issued the relevant document
  • an Australian university

Alternatively, documents verified by someone who is currently employed inAustraliaas:

  • an accountant - members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, or the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants, or the National Institute of Accountants, or the Association of Taxation and Management Accountants or Registered Tax Agents
  • a bank or credit union manager
  • a barrister, solicitor or patent attorney
  • a police officer with the rank of sergeant and above
  • a post office manager
  • a principal of an Australian secondary college, high school or primary school
  • a commissioner for declarations
  • a Justice of the Peace where the registration number is clearly indicated

What does correctly certified mean?

Correctly certified means that your original document has been sighted and the copy has been sworn to be a true copy of the original by one of the authorised people mentioned above. Please note that scans or photocopies will not be accepted.

Translation of documents

Documents not in English must be officially translated and submitted together with certified copies of supporting documents.

Officers authorised to translate official documents into English include:

  • NAATI(National Accreditation Authority for Translators & Interpreters) accredited translators (opens an external site)
  • A translator from a reputable translation company in your home country
  • An official translation from the institution that issued the document
  • A UTS registered student recruitment agent
  • A public notary

Note: translated documents must have an official (translation) seal and be signed by the translator

Step 3: Pay the application fee

The application fee will be waived if one of the following conditions apply:

  • you are a current UTS student
  • you are a current UTS College student

Payment of the application fee can be made in the following ways:

  • Viaour secure payment site. After your payment has been approved you must print a copy of the tax receipt and submit it together with your application.
  • cheques and bank drafts – made payable to "University of Technology Sydney"
  • Flywire – online applications only

Step 4: Submit application

Your application, supporting documents and application fee can be submitted to UTS in a number of different ways.

Online

If you completed your application online,you will still have to provide certified hard copies of your original documents. These may be provided after your application has been assessed. You will also have to provide your original bank cheque/draft to UTS if you choose this method to pay your application fee. The options to provide your certified hard copies and/or original bank cheque/draft are listed below.

On campus

To a UTS recruitment agent

You can submit your application to one of the manystudent recruitment agentsworldwide. These Student Recruitment Agents are more than happy to discuss study options available at UTS, and can assist you in preparing and submitting your application.

To a UTS representative

Your application can also be submitted directly to a UTS representative at aUTS international event.

Step 5: Receive an acknowledgement letter

You will receive aletter acknowledging that we have received your application.

The application processing time for all complete coursework applications is normally around one to two weeks and UTS International will advise you in writing whether your application is successful. If your application is incomplete this may delay the processing time.

Step 6: Accept your offer

If you have met all the requirements, you will receive aletter of offerto study at UTS.

You will then need toaccept the offer.
