Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis. We make decisions on individual applications as quickly as possible, although the time required may vary from case to case. We evaluate each application thoroughly, reflecting our belief that the quality of the educational environment at Vanderbilt Law School benefits from considering a broad range of information contained in each application.
Application Basics
- Applications for the LL.M. may be submitted from September 1 through April 30.Apply onlinethrough LSAC.
- Applicants must have completed (or expect to complete) a first degree in law, or a first degree in another subject plus a 3-year Masters Degree in Law, from a university outside the United States. Correspondence course degrees or degrees earned online will not be considered for admission to the LL.M. program.
- If your native language is not English, you must take theTest of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), theInternational English Language Testing System (IELTS), or theDuolingo English Test.
- LL.M. students begin their studies in the fall semester.
- The application fee is $50.00 (US).
Admissions Considerations
The Vanderbilt LL.M. Admissions Committee considers the following in its decision process:
- Previous legal experience
- Areas of interest
- Academic work
- Letters of reference
- Scholarly publications
- Writing samples (for thesis track applicants only)
- Proficiency in the English language
