After receiving a letter notifying her that she was eligible for the NJ Stars program, Maria Frometa Lora committed to attending Bergen citing student services ranging from mental health assistance to tutoring. Currently studying health science to pursue a career as an occupational therapist, “Bergen is a stepping-stone for those seeking higher education." She expects to graduate in 2025.

My time at Bergen Community College was not all I expected to be, It showed me the ropes to what i now understand is the collegiate education system. I felt that certain organization aspect were severely overlooked. For example I played athletics are BCC and was not in the highest control of what my schedule would look like, so I expected to be in-listed in the credits needed for me to end my time there by two years. Due to the sharing of my schedule between their baseball program and classes, This lead to me being in a situation where by the end of my second year I was less than 60% done with my credits needed for my Associates degree. Although throughout my time I made frequent check ins with my advisor there It was never expressed to me that the schedule I was taking was not going to meet the requirements for graduation. Not to mention at end of the 2023 baseball season the Coach who had been out of line all season for unprofessional behavior was released from his post dramatically.

Review Bergen Community College

My time at community college has been a really positive experience. The smaller classes made it easy to connect with my professors, who were always willing to help and actually cared about how I was doing. The campus has a friendly vibe, and I’ve met people from all kinds of backgrounds, which has made things more interesting. There are also a lot of resources like tutoring and career services that have been super helpful. Overall, I feel like my time here has really set me up for success and I’ve enjoyed being part of this community.

I love Bergen, I met my closest friends here and the students are pretty friendly. My only complaint would be that the financial aid office can be difficult and not understanding of students situation, if you are in a difficult situation and cannot provide parental financial information. They make it hard for you to receive financial is. But other then that, the professors are extremely kind and hold your feelings to a high regard and help you as long as you ask for help. :)
